The 2005 City Stages was the 17th annual edition of "Birmingham's World-Class Music Festival". The festival hosted 125 performers on 9 stages around Linn Park and 5th Avenue North on June 17-19, 2005.

The 2005 festival gained a title sponsor and was officially named the Vines & Waldrep City Stages in a three-year deal worth $150,000 per year. Weekend passes increased by $5 to $35 in advance. Day passes were $28 at the door. Organizers secured rain insurance at a cost of $50,0000. The overall budget for the vent was around $2.4 million. The festival increased its talent budget to between $850,000 and $875,000. Aretha Franklin was scheduled to appear, but canceled her visit.

Ticket sales totaled an estimated $1.1 million for the weekend.

City Stages contracted with Affordable Sound and Light and Davis Production Services to crew the stages.
