The Amtrak Crescent is the name of the passenger rail service provided by Amtrak through Birmingham. The route serves as a rail connection between New York and New Orleans via Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Richmond, Raleigh, Charlotte, Atlanta and Birmingham, following the route of Southern Railway's former "The Southern Crescent".

The ride from end to end currently takes approximately 30 hours to complete. Accommodations on the train include reserved coach seating, a variety of overnight accommodations and a dining car.

The Crescent arrives in Birmingham's Amtrak Station on Morris Avenue twice daily. During its southbound journey, Birmingham is located at mile marker 1,023. The 19 train arrives daily in route to New Orleans at 11:44 a.m. and departs at 12:02 p.m. The 20 train arrives daily in route to New York at 2:23 p.m. and departs at 2:31 p.m.
