Amzi Godden Co.

The Amzi Godden Co. or Amzi Godden Seed & Grain Company was a distributor of seeds in Birmingham. It was founded by Amzi Godden as an outgrowth of his wholesale drug store.

From 1899 to 1901 the company was headed by Robert Lovelady with G. B. McVay as vice-president and secretary. It had two locations across the street from each other at 2024 and 2025 1st Avenue North, as well as a distribution warehouse at 1721-1723 1st Avenue.

Two years later, with McVay as president, C. H. Reed as vice-president and C. G. McD. Reid as secretary-treasurer, the Amzi Godden Co. moved its offices and retail store up the street 2018 1st Avenue North and bought a new, larger warehouse at Avenue A and 23rd Street South.

The company distributed seed for produce, forage, ground cover and other uses, as well as fertilizer, insecticides, and broadcasting and spraying equipment. Among the many varieties of plant seeds sold by Amzi Godden Co. were a few sold under Birmingham-related trade names such as "Birmingham's Earliest" beets, and "Birmingham" radishes.
