Anchorage Restaurant in March 2007

The Anchorage Restaurant was located at 2826 18th Street South in downtown Homewood. It was a continuation of Newt's Restaurant opened in 1941 by B. H. Thompson, and had three more owners over its history. The restaurant was open for breakfast and lunch. At lunch time it served meat with vegetable plates, sandwiches, burgers, and salads.

In July 2005, R. T. Lee and Denton Scott purchased the restaurant. Lee sold his portion of the business to Scott in April 2008. William Shaia of Osprey, Florida, owns the building where the restaurant was located.

In August 2008, Shaia and Scott were in negotiations over the lease, which expired on September 1. It was reported by The Birmingham News that negotiations were at a standstill. At the time, Shaia's attorney, Wheeler Smith of Homewood, stated that he was confident that the dispute would be resolved and the restaurant would not be closing, but in the end no agreement was reached and the restaurant closed September 30.
