Spurling grew up in the Ensley area and graduated Ensley High School in 1990 and from Talladega College in 1994. He earned his Juris Doctor from the Birmingham School of Law in 1999 and operates his own practice, Spurling & Associates with offices at 418 19th Street Ensley. He moved the practice to Ensley from offices on 1st Avenue North and, initially, at 2170 Highland Avenue. He also moved his family from Hoover to Adamsville.
Spurling and his wife, the former Marquita Miles have four children (Tyren, Kennedi, Myles and Harrison) and are members of New Life Interfaith Ministries. The couple operates Recycled Wardrobe, a new clothing store in Ensley. They are also in the process of launching several other businesses, including Playover Games & Movies, Recycled Furnishings, Sanctuary Accommodations and Ensley Live Entertainment, all on Avenue E Ensley.
