Ausreisser

Ausreisser (also spelled Ausreißer, which is German for "runaways") is a vocal ensemble made up of college students and young professionals which primarily performs various styles of gospel music. The group normally performs a capella, but is sometimes accompanied by piano or organ. The director is Anthony Concepcion.

Ausreisser began when fifteen students from the UAB Concert Choir began independently performing through six countries in Europe in summer 2008 after the choir had performed in Ireland. The group's named was given to them by their travel arranger during that initial trip. Due to the positive response, they decided to continue performing together upon their return to Birmingham. A non-profit group, they raised funds for a return trip to Germany for more performances in 2009 through donations at local concerts and other means. As of spring 2009, the group had 26 members.
