The Ball of Roses is an annual debutante ball sponsored by the Ballet Guild of Birmingham. The program was established in 1959 and hosted its first event in August 1961 at the Country Club of Birmingham. Honorees appear in formal long gowns and gloves and are presented by their fathers, with whom they waltz during the first dance of the evening. Honorees are invited to become members of the Ballet Guild upon completing their education and the event serves as a major fund-raiser for the Alabama Ballet.
