Barbara Files-Kennedy

Barbara Files-Kennedy is a behavioral counselor, motivational speaker and notary public.

Files-Kennedy grew up in Ensley. She began working in street outreach worker for UAB's substance abuse program and as a prevention/addiction treatment consultant for Royal Divinity Industries in 1998. In 2003 she was promoted to case manager at UAB. In 2007 she graduated from Miles College and assumed her present role as a behavioral counselor. The same year, she began working as a motivational speaker through the MayaTech Corporation of Silver Spring, Maryland. She launched her notary service, Oncallnotary, in 2016.

Files-Kennedy campaigned for the open Birmingham City Council District 8 seat in the 2021 Birmingham municipal election. As a candidate she has pledged to support community empowerment for environmental clean-up and public health, to support non-profits, and to engage with the community.
