Bobbie Knight

Bobbie Knight is the president of Miles College and vice-chair of the Birmingham Airport Authority.

Knight was one of five siblings and grew up in the Zion City neighborhood. She graduated from Banks High School and earned a bachelor of arts at the University of Alabama School of Communications in 1978 and a juris doctorage from the Birmingham School of Law in 1985. She spent 37 years working for Alabama Power Company, including stints as vice president of the Birmingham Division, vice president of public relations, and general manager of supply chain. She retired from the company in 2016.

In 2017 incoming Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin named Knight to co-chair his transition committee with Charles Krulak. He appointed her to the Airport Authority in 2018. She also operates a consulting firm and serves on the Board of Managers for the Birmingham Times and the board of the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.

Knight, who had been a trustee of Miles College since July 2017, was appointed interim president in September 2019, following the resignation of George French Jr. She was selected as the permanent president six months later.

Knight is married to former professional football player Gary Burley.
