The beer bar at Brät Brot

Carrigan's Beer Garden, formerlyBrät Brot and Brät Brot Gartenbar, is a German-themed bar and restaurant located in the former Plant Odyssey building at 2910 6th Avenue South.

The business, owned by David Carrigan, opened as a "Biergarten" in April 2018. It served a selection of German and German-style beers on draft along with a menu featuring sausages, pickles, pretzels and schnitzel. The building renovations were designed by Bruce Lanier of ArchitectureWorks and carried out by Locke General Contractors. A dramatically-lit carved limestone "beer fountain" was placed in the main interior dining area, opposite an open Honduran wood-fired grill, with the intent to highlight the drama of the bar's food and drink preparations. The garden area was paved with gravel, divided by tea olive hedges and lit from string lights suspended from open greenhouse frames. The project won a 2019 Merit Award from AIA Birmingham.

Brät Brot closed abruptly in December of that year, in a move later characterized as temporary, in order to re-assess the business. It reopened as a "Gartenbar", with a full bar program and reduced hours on April 23, 2019. Angela Schmidt was hired as the new executive chef and Lindsey Drummond designed the drink program.

After a forced closure due to public health orders for the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic, the bar reopened in June as "Carrigan's Beer Garden". The bar added an online ordering system along with table service to some of the indoor seating areas. In 2023 Carrigan sold the beer garden to Carter Hughes of H2 Real Estate for $2,275,000.
