Charlie Moore

Charles William Moore Jr (born June 21, 1953 in Birmingham), is a former professional baseball player who played in the Major Leagues primarily as a catcher and outfielder from 1973 to 1987. He played most of his career with the Milwaukee Brewers, then played his final season with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Moore was drafted out of Minor High School in the 5th round of the 1971 MLB draft (101st overall pick). He played one year for the Class A short-season Newark Co-Pilots, batting .297, then was promoted to the Class A Danville, Illinois Warriors. In 1973 he played 76 games with the Class AA Shreveport Captains and 50 games with the Class AAA Evansville Triplets before being called up.

Moore debuted for the Brewers on September 8, 1973. His career is marked by his having hit for the cycle in a 10-7 Brewers win over the California Angels on October 1, 1980. He was batting ninth in the lineup at the time. He was also with the 1982 Brewers team that met the St Louis Cardinals in the World Series.

Moore was granted free agency in 1986 and signed with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1987. He played his last major league game on October 4, 1987 as a Blue Jay.

Moore's career batting average was .261 with 1052 total hits and 408 runs batted in.

Moore now works as a sales representative in Birmingham.
