Cox Media Group is the broadcasting, publishing and digital media division of Sandy Springs, Georgia-based Cox Enterprises. Nationally it operates 15 television stations, 86 radio stations, 8 daily newspapers and several other publications, including the "Val-Pack" direct-mail coupon distributor. The parent company began with James Middleton Cox's founding of the Dayton Daily News in Dayton, Ohio in 1898. Still in private hands, the company is now chaired by James C. Kennedy, Cox's great-great grandson.

Cox Media Group owns seven radio stations in Birmingham: WAGG-AM, WBHK-FM, WBHJ-FM, WBPT-FM, WENN-FM, WNCB-FM, and WZZK-FM. The local vice-president and market manager is David DuBose, who reports to group vice-president Ben Reed, formerly of Birmingham, now based in San Antonio, Texas.

Currently Cox Media Group's local offices are located in the Medical Forum Building at 950 22nd Street North, with additional studio space on Beacon Parkway. The company plans to consolidate its local operations into 18,000 square feet in the 2700 Building at Meadow Brook Corporate Park on U. S. Highway 280.

Cox sold its Birmingham stations, along with those in Greenville, South Carolina; Richmond, Virginia; Louisville, Kentucky; and Honolulu, Hawaii to David DuBose's Summit Media in early 2013.
