Dean Sicking

Dean L. Sicking is an engineering professor and associate vice president of product development at UAB. He is known for his pioneering highway safety research and his participation in the development of "SAFER" barriers used on motorsports racetracks.

Sicking earned his bachelor of science at Texas A&M University in 1980 and began working as a researcher at the Texas Transportation Institute at Texas A&M. In 1992 he completed a PhD in civil engineering and began teaching at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

Sicking was recruited to the UAB faculty in 2012. George Barber offered space at the Barber Motorsports Park for his research.
