Derrick Johnson

Derrick "Behr" Johnson (born January 1978; died January 10, 2021) was a special education teacher and athletics coach for Birmingham City Schools.

Johnson graduated from Woodlawn High School in 1996 and earned a bachelor's degree in health education in 2001 at the University of North Alabama, where he was a member of the Lions football team.

Johnson began his career at Woodlawn in 2002, coaching football and track & field. He completed a master's in special education at Alabama State University in 2012 and an educational specialist degree from the University of West Alabama in 2015. He later taught at Huffman High School where he coached wrestling and football, and was laying the groundwork for a varsity wrestling team.

Johnson was diagnosed with COVID-19 on December 24, 2020 and died in January 2021.
