The Dewberry Drug Co. building on 2nd Avenue North

The Dewberry Drug Co. building is a two-story commercial building at 2031 2nd Avenue North, on the corner of Richard Arrington Jr Boulevard North. It was constructed in the late 1870s and housed the Dewberry Drug Co. for most of the 20th century. It is a contributing structure to the Downtown Birmingham Historic District, recognized on the National Register of Historic Places in February 1982.

Before Dewberry purchased it from Robert Lovelady, the building had been used as warehouse space for Godden & Lide and the Amzi Godden Co.

Dewberry continued to use the building as its main downtown store until 1995. In 2002 the vacant building, along with the adjoining Phenix Insurance Building, were acquired by John Lauriello and Julie Gieger of Southpace Properties for restoration and redevelopment. Soon attorneys Gulas & Stuckey purchased the combined properties and completed the renovations, designed by Cohen & Company and carried out by Bradford Building Company.
