Dian McCray

Dian Kent McCray (born June 9, 1949 in Shelby County) is an artist, art teacher, and children's book author.

McCray is the daughter of John and Rena Kent and grew up on their Kent Dairy Farm. As a child she was inspired to paint by her mother's "art box", full of paint tubes and brushes.

She graduated from Thompson High School in 1967 and studied art at Arizona State University. She holds undergraduate and masters degrees from the University of Montevallo. Her work has been exhibited in Alabama, Arizona and Virginia and is owned by private collectors across the United States and in Europe.

Since 1980 McCray has taught at Thompson Elementary School and Thompson High School. She was named Shelby County's "Teacher of the Year" in 1993.
