Donna Mitchell

Donna Hall Mitchell (born August 28, 1955 in Bessemer; died December 31, 2022) was a special education teacher, principal of Inglenook K-8 School, a nonprofit executive, and a member of the Fairfield Board of Education.

Mitchell was the daughter of two educators. She earned her bachelor of science in special education at Alabama A&M University in 1977 and a master of arts in education at UAB. She later completed a doctorate in education leadership through Nova Southeastern University of Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2010.

Mitchell taught special education classes for 22 years. She began serving as a principal in Birmingham City Schools beginning in 2000, and retired in 2013. After retiring she founded the Mitchell Group, a nonprofit public education advocacy firm focused on students with special needs. She joined the Fairfield Board of Education in June 2018.

Mitchell died in December 2022 and was buried at Valhalla Cemetery. Eric Major was appointed to fill her seat on the Fairfield Board of Education.
