Tinney graduated from Oak Mountain High School in 2002 and was currently a nursing student at Auburn University, graduating in the spring of 2006. Her ambition was to become a nurse anesthetist, and she hoped to work at a children's hospital in Nashville, where she spent part of her childhood.

In September 2005, Tinney passed her crown to new Miss Alabama USA 2006 Haleigh Stidham.
