Jim Hillhouse

James Douglas Hillhouse III (born c. 1928; died June 23, 2013) was an architect.

Hillhouse graduated from Marion Military Institute in 1947 and enrolled at Auburn University. He left school to volunteer with the U.S. Army, serving with the 432nd Engineering Construction Battalion in post-war West Germany. After returning, he completed his degree in architecture and began working in Birmingham.

In the 1950s Hillhouse moved to Midland, Texas and practiced as a residential architect. He married the former Sara Maverick in 1962. Five years later he returned to Birmingham and was employed as an architect by UAB. He was involved in the major 1979 expansion of the campus along 13th Street South before he returned to private practice. He served as president of the Birmingham Apple Core Apple computer users group in 1999-2000.

Hillhouse died in 2013 from cancer. He was survived by three children and two grandchildren. He is buried at Elmwood Cemetery.
