Jim Porter

James W. Porter II (born February 7, 1949 in Birmingham) is an attorney and president of the National Rifle Association.

Porter is the son of former NRA president Irvine Porter. He earned his bachelor of arts at the University of Alabama in 1971 and graduated from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 1974. He clerked under Virgil Pittman in the Southern Judicial District of Alabama for two years. Porter has served as a special assistant attorney general for the State of Alabama. He is a partner in the firm of Porter, Porter and Hassinger.

Active in the National Rifle Association his entire life, Porter rotated through the positions of second and first vice-president before being elected president effective May 6, 2013.
