Jimbo Wood

Jimbo Wood (born April 12, 1961) is a radio personality from Birmingham. Wood was born at St Vincent's Hospital and grew up in Mountain Brook. He attended Crestline Elementary, Cherokee Bend Elementary, Mountain Brook Junior High and graduated from Mountain Brook High School in 1979. He then went to the University of Montevallo, achieving a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication in 1983.

Wood has been on and off the local airways since he began his career in 1979 at WERC. He was on-air at WKXX (Kicks 106) while in college. After graduation, he moved to a station in New Orleans in 1983. In 1984 he was back in Birmingham at WAPI (I-95). He moved on to stations in Montgomery, Memphis, and San Jose, California, but was back in Bimirmingham on I-95 by the early 1990s. In 1993, Wood dropped out of the radio business, moved to the Bahamas and taught SCUBA-diving lessons while living on a boat. By 2000, he was back in Alabama as the program director for WRTT in Huntsville. From February 2007 until July 2009, Wood was back on air in Birmingham as the afternoon DJ and program director for WENN, 105.5 The Vulcan.
