The Junior League of Birmingham-Hugh Kaul Children’s Zoo is a featured attraction at the Birmingham Zoo. It was opened in April, 2005 for a cost of $15 million. The exhibit features a stream with native fishes, an Alabama barn petting zoo, a play area with "leaping fountains", and a carousel

The carousel, crafted by Carousel Works of Mansfield, Ohio, features 36 hand-carved mounts, each representing an endangered species. The ride, one of only 30 new carousels created worldwide since 1933, was commissioned by the Zoo and debuted in 2002.
