Katy Awad

Katy Carr Awad is a former science teacher and a photographer.

She grew up in Florence and taught at a Montessori school in Montgomery. She married Birmingham Islamic Society member Raed Awad in 2003 and converted from the Episcopal Church to Islam. They later divorced.

In working with the Alabama Fairth Council to promote understanding between different religions she proposed a photography exhibit of religious symbols from various faiths. The exhibit opened at First Presbyterian Church in May 2008. Her work has also been published in the Birmingham Arts Journal.
