Keith Blayney

Keith D. Blayney (born 1937 in Anamosa, Iowa - died July 1, 2007 in Mobile) was the founder of UAB's School of Health Professions.

Blayney earned his PhD in hospital administration at the University of Iowa and joined the faculty of the University of Alabama as an assistant professor in 1966. He came to Birmingham when UAB was established and became administrator of UAB Hospital on July 1, 1969.

Starting on January 15, 1971, Blayney became the first dean of the School of Community and Allied Health Resources. Under his leadership, the school grew and became the School of Health Professions, which offers 21 programs in diagnostic, critical care, physical and occupational rehabilitiation, health administration and nutrition science. He retired from that position in 1992.

Bleyney was active in UAB's outreach efforts. He designed the School of Allied Health at the Technological University of Kingston, Jamaica and founded the first hospital administration program in China.

Blayney was survived by his wife, Xiuxiang, two sons and two grandchildren.
