1. June 7: Betty Jordan Howard was shot to death in the parking lot behind the Roebuck Lanes bowling center. Her ex-husband, Phillip Hill, who had previously threatened to kill her, was arrested by the FBI in Massachusetts. He was convicted at trial of 2nd degree murder and sentenced to 50 years plus one day in prison.
