This is a List of homicides in 1933, including all cases investigated in the Birmingham District.

Jefferson County

Birmingham

Unincorporated Jefferson County

  • June or July: Elizabeth Lawrence was reportedly shot and burned to death in her home "about five miles from Birmingham" by a lynch mob which formed in response to her scolding some children who taunted her and threw rocks and dirt. No arrest. (report)

Tuscaloosa County

  • June 12: Vaudine Maddox, 21, was murdered near her Big Sandy home and her body dumped in a ravine. Three suspects were taken into custody and later abducted by a mob. Two of them were shot to death while a third was wounded, but escaped.
  • August 10: Dan Pippen, Jr, 18, jailed under suspicion of involvement in the murder of Maddox, was shot to death by a mob near the Jefferson County line. No charges were filed.
  • August 10: A. T. Harden, 15, jailed under suspicion of involvement in the murder of Maddox, was shot to death by a mob near the Jefferson County line. No charges were filed.
