Unincorporated Jefferson County

• August: Faye New, 19, was found dead in a ditch at the edge of a cornfield outside the city limits. Her throat had been slit. Harold Taylor, who had given her a ride to repair a punctured tire the night before, was charged with her murder, but acquitted at trial. (Jones-2017)
