This is a List of homicides in 2020, including homicide cases reported throughout the Birmingham District. At least 241 homicides have been reported in the area for the year. Note that a "homicide" refers to the cause of death as determined by a medical examiner, not to the crime of murder as charged by prosecutors and adjudicated through the courts.

Bibb County

Blount County

  1. May 27: Isaiah Noel, 5 months old, was pronounced dead from brain trauma at St Vincent's Hospital-Blount. His mother's boyfriend, Thomas Anthony Glenn, was arrested and charged with felony murder and aggravated child abuse. (report)
  2. December 2: Dakota Colton Nunley, 22, was shot to death in an apparent road rage incident on Alabama State Highway 75 near the The Church at Remlap in Remlap. The driver, Michael Wayne Harris, was convicted of murder at trial in November 2023. (report)

Calhoun County

  1. July 24: An unnamed male, 49, was shot to death during an altercation in the driveway of a home on the 3366 U.S. Highway 78 in Oxford. Teenya Heard was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  2. August 13: An unnamed person was shot to death along with their spouse in an apparent murder suicide in the Sherwood Forest subdivision. No arrest. (report)
  3. August 16: Anton M. Johnson, 28, died at UAB Hospital from a gunshot wound he suffered near the intersection of 12th Street and Noble Street in Anniston. No arrest. (report)
  4. November 21: Brittany Nicole Yoder was shot to death by a Calhoun County Sheriff's Department deputy after she attempted to shoot him during an arrest which followed from a traffic stop on Grayton Road South in Ohatchee. A second suspect, Timothy Alan Wood, was charged with trafficking methamphetamines and unlawful possession of a firearm. (report)

Chilton County

  1. August 31: Robert Earl Jackson, 54, was shot to death by a Chilton County Sheriff's deputy during a chase that began during a traffic stop. According to Thorbsy Police Department, Jackson was observed failing to yield on Montgomery Avenue. When pulled over, he fired at police and fled the scene on foot. During the search, Jackson shot and wounded a police dog before he was shot by a deputy. The Alabama State Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the circumstances of the police-involved shooting. Coosa County

Cullman County

  1. April 3: Jeffery Glenn Wilhite, 57, was last seen near West Point. Following a lengthy investigation, Randall Dewayne Hogan was indicted by a grand jury for his murder. (report)
  2. July 24: Jesslyn Ann Nicole Hood, 19, died when the Jeep Patriot in which she was a passenger veered off of County County Road 1223 and into a tree about 3 miles north of Cullman. The driver, Austin Edward Turrentine, is alleged to have been under the influence of a controlled substance. He was indicted by a Cullman County grand jury in August 2021 on charges of reckless murder, manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide. (report)
  3. August 15: Levi Benjamin Lawrence, 24, and another man were found shot to death, and another person wounded, after a reported shooting at a home on Cullman County Road 1854 in the New Canaan community south of Arab. He is believed by investigators to have been killed in an attempted robbery. Tyler Dwight Dooley was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  4. August 15: Dalton Matthew Bannister, 36, was killed in the same incident. Investigators believe he was shot while he and Dooley were attempting to rob Lawrence.
  5. August 24: Tazz Wynn, 23, was shot to death in a domestic incident in the Battleground community northwest of Cullman. A suspect was taken into custody, but has not been charged. (report)
  6. September 12: Herndon Self Jr, 56, was stabbed to death during an argument inside a vehicle near the intersection of Alabama State Route 157 and U.S. Highway 31 in northern Cullman. Nathan Winston Stephens was arrested in Cobb County, Georgia in October. He was convicted at trial before Judge Gregory Nicholas in October 2023 and sentenced to life in prison without possibility for parole. Stephens' mother, Audrey Cofield Smith, was also charged with hindering prosecution. (report)

Etowah County

  1. December 24: The remains of Traci Wilemon, 50, were found partially burned at her home in Altoona. Her boyfriend, Antonio Pierre Belcher, was arrested and charged with murder and abuse of a corpse. (report)

  1. August 28: Jamaal Schmann Cook, 35, died at UAB Hospital from gunshot wounds suffered on the 1100 block of Dee Drive in the Gray's Garden community. No arrest. (report)

Bessemer

  1. February 9: Zykeith Peavy, 17, was shot to death during an illegal gun purchase on the 4600 block of Little Drive. A 15-year-old suspect was taken into custody and charged with murder and illegal possession of a firearm. (report)
  2. February 25: The remains of Karen Joyce Scott, missing since December 2018, were found in a manhole in the 3100 block of Exeter Alley. There was evidence that she died from a gunshot wound. No arrest. (report)
  3. March 21: Christopher Edward Tillman, 39, was shot to death when a fight broke out during a gathering on the 2900 block of Long 14th Street. No arrest. (report)
  4. March 21: Jason Mendiola, 21, was one of two people shot to death when a fight broke out during a gathering on the 600 block of Bell Street. A 17-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with capital murder. (report)
  5. March 21: Javier Monzon Mendoza, 21, was also killed in that shooting.
  6. March 30: Sean Rose, 12, was killed by a gunshot at his home at 505 29th Street North. His 16-year-old brother was charged with reckless manslaughter. (report)
  7. April 2: Earnest Lee Cunningham Jr, 26, was found shot to death on the 3300 block of 12th Avenue North. Christopher Tanks was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  8. April 8: Jeffery S. Burke, 36, was stabbed to death at a home on the 1700 block of Fairfax Alley. Though the suspect, Alexander Tubbs, had reported a home invasion. Investigators determined that the two were cousins and had been involved in a dispute and no home invasion took place. Tubbs was convicted of murder before Judge David Carpenter in September 2023. He was sentenced to 37 years in prison, with the possibility of parole (report)
  9. May 4: Torie Demarcus Bouyer, 41, was shot to death near 6th Avenue North behind the 4th Avenue Supermarket. No arrest. A black extended cab pickup truck with tinted windows is sought in connection with the shooting. (report)
  10. May 22: Michael Jones, 45, of Columbus, Mississippi, was found shot to death in a vacant home in the 1800 block of Fairfax Avenue. He had traveled to Tuscaloosa, and from there to Bessemer, in order to purchase a discounted iPhone from an online seller. His pickup truck was found abandoned on Clarendon Avenue. A juvenile male suspect was arrested in April 2021. (report)
  11. June 5: Corey Dewayne Alexander, 20, died at UAB Hospital from gunshot wounds suffered the previous day in a shootout on the 1600 block of 25th Avenue Bessemer. Three people who accompanied Alexander to the area, Kenderous Rudolph Abercrombie, Khari Herbert, and Christopher Cobb, were charged with felony murder for participating in a crime that led to a death.   12. June 26: Matthew Scott Sartin, 22, was killed when his motorcycle was struck by another vehicle on I-59/20 south near mile marker 102. Franklin Edwards, an assistant fire chief for the city of Selma, was arrested and charged with felony leaving the scene. (report)
  13. July 28: Demarcus Tyrone Hale, 45, died at UAB Medical West from a gunshot wounds suffered on Carolina Terrace. No arrest. (report)
  14. August 31: Jeremy Melvin Simpson, 29, was found shot to death on the 2100 block of Berkley Avenue. No arrest. (report)
  15. October 25: Torrandine James Robert Harris, 26, was found shot to death in the parking lot of the Red Roof Inn at 4985 Academy Court. Travis Leshun Lee was arrested in Arkansas in September 2021 and charged with Harris' murder. (report)
  16. October 26: Mikel Cooper, 18, was shot to death while working on a car at his house near the corner of 6th Avenue and 15th Street North. Three others were wounded in an apparent shootout set off by a drive-by. One of those wounded, a 16-year-old, was charged with capital murder. A second teenager was also charged in November. (report)
  17. November 11: Danny Ray Jones, 57, was found shot to death outside a house on the 900 block of Sharon Drive. Jonathan "Chase" Mason was charged with his murder in December. Timothy Steven Bradford, jailed on other charges, was also charged with Jones' murder in May 2021. (report)
  18. December 15: Dusharme Mandell Jones, 24, was shot to death at his home at 1312 Fairfax Avenue. No arrest. (report)

Brighton

  1. February 12: Gerald Clifton Bell, 57, was found dead from an apparent homicide on the 4000 block of 4th Avenue Brighton. Jason Green has been charged with capital murder, murder and theft of property, but remains at large. (report)
  2. April 11: An unidentified man was stabbed to death at the Holiday Mobile Home Park following an altercation at the Everyday Store on Bessemer Super Highway. Jesus Rodriquez, who was injured in the fight, was arrested and charged with manslaughter. (report)
  3. November 20: An unnamed male was found shot to death in a car on Short 5th Avenue. No arrest. (report)

Center Point

  1. February 25: Delquan McNeily, 21, was shot to death at Corey's Barber & Styles at 10 20th Court Northwest, off Center Point Parkway. The shooting was ruled justifiable and no charges were filed. (report)
  2. May 13: Demetric Hampton Jr, 2, was found unresponsive at his home on the 1600 block of 6th Street Northwest. Doctors at Children's Hospital found multiple injuries. His father Demetric Hampton Sr and stepmother Terrica Harris were arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse. A grand jury indicted Hampton Sr on a capital murder charge and aggravated child abuse, and Harris on a single count of aggravated child abuse. (report)
  3. December 6: Christian Dewayne Smith, 19, was shot to death on the 1600 block of 2nd Street Northeast during a dispute. Twin brothers Zamir Princeton Jones and Zaden Prince Jones were arrested and charged with murder. They pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of manslaughter before Judge Alaric May and were given 20-year sentences with a minimum of 4 years served and 5 years of probation. (report)

Clay

  1. November 24: Paul Edward Trull, 56, died from a gunshot wound suffered in a domestic incident on the the 7500 block of Weems Lane. A male believed to be the shooter was taken into custody at the scene, but no charges have been announced. (report)

Fairfield

  1. March 9: Octavia Nicole Johnson, 20, died at UAB Hospital from injuries suffered in a vehicle collision near mile marker 119 on I-20/59. Investigators determined that the cause of the crash was a street race between Kevin Lamar King and Keanjra Lashai Maddox, who was driving the car in which Johnson was riding. They were both arrested and charged with reckless manslaughter. (report)
  2. May 22: An unnamed male, 29, was shot to death while driving on the 4100 block of Lloyd Noland Parkway. The shooter was riding in a large, white SUV. No arrest. (report)
  3. June 1: Kencasiko Bernard Bryant, 42, was found dead from a gunshot wound in his home on the 200 block of 51st Street. Carterious Garcell Dees, who met Bryant on a social media app, was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  4. July 21: Devon Darien Johnson, 22, died at UAB Hospital from a gunshot wound suffered at the Chateau Glen Oaks apartment complex on Fairfax Drive. Another person was injured. No arrest. (report)
  5. August 19: Christine LeTourneau Summers, 53, was beaten to death outside her truck on I-20/59 near the Valley Road exit. She had stopped and left the truck to check on something in the road and was assaulted. The Alabama State Bureau of Investigation led the investigation. Charles Levester Gipson was arrested by Hueytown Police and later charged with Summers' murder. He assaulted two law enforcement officers in jail and also vandalized his cell, and was held without bond. Judge David Carpenter bound his case over to a grand jury and ordered a mental evaluation.   6. December 1: Tykeia Marquise Daniels, 21, was shot to death on the 5600 block of E. J. Oliver Boulevard near I-59/20 Exit 118 and a BP gas station. De'Andre Carrithers was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  7. December 19: Madison Rayne Jones, 1, died at Children's Hospital from injuries suffered when the car she was riding in was rear-ended by a Dodge Ram pickup truck at a red light at Valley Road at U.S. Steel Parkway. The driver of the truck, Michael Harbin, was arrested and charged with reckless manslaughter. (report)

Fultondale

  • December 10: Paula Marie Odom, 37, was struck head on while driving westbound on Carson Road approaching North Pine Hill Road. Christopher George Denard was found to have been driving on the wrong side of the road in excess of posted speed limits and under the influence of controlled substances. He was indicted by a grand jury in March 2022 for reckless manslaughter. (report)

Hoover

  1. February 14: Shemethia Tynise Coteat Stanton, 41, was shot to death in an apparent targeted assault in the parking lot of The Park at Wakefield apartments off Tyler Road. A dark-colored four-door sedan was seen leaving the scene. Police have identified a person of interest but have not made an arrest. (report)
  2. July 3: Royta Giles Jr, 8, died from a gunshot wound suffered in a shootout near the food court at the Riverchase Galleria. Montez Moses Miracle Coleman was arrested and charged with capital murder and three counts of 2nd-degree assault. On July 7 King Gary Williams and Demetrius Dewayne Jackson Jr were arrested and charged with capital murder and 2nd-degree assault. Grand jury indictments for the three defendants were made public in December. (report)
  3. September 10: Emryhe Prude, 11, was one of two children killed when a GMC 6500 truck rear-ended their Honda Fit on Montgomery Highway, in front of the Hoover Square shopping center. Investigators determined that Christopher Shane Anagnos, the driver of the truck, had been driving while texting and under the influence of multiple controlled substances. He was wanted on two murder warrants when he was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Mexico in October 2021. He was indicted in November 2022 on two counts of reckless murder. (report)
  4. September 10: Serris Prude, 8, was killed along with her brother in the same collision.

Hueytown

  1. May 17: Ryan Clayton-Brown, 25, missing for four days, was found dead on the 2800 block of Walnut Avenue Southwest in Birmingham's Jones Valley neighborhood. His car had been found burning in an alley on the 500 block of 53rd Street Ensley in Fairfield. Christopher DeAntwon Davis was arrested in June at the Ace Motel in Brighton and charged with murder. Forensic testing of a blood stain found alongside a spent shell casing outside a business on the 1200 block of 24th Avenue in Hueytown matched Clayton-Brown's blood. As a result the homicide was reassigned from Birmingham to Hueytown and Davis' prosecution moved to the Bessemer Division. (report)
  2. October 25: Marquel Deyarlo Toliver, 27, was shot to death in an apparent domestic dispute at a home on the 100 block of Church Avenue. The suspected shooter was also critically injured. (report)

Irondale

  1. February 25: Derrick Gerod Marks, 25, was shot to death in the parking lot of the Hunter Ridge Apartments off of Gadsden Highway. Investigators determined that Marks was shot accidentally by one of his friends who believed he was being shot at, and prosecutors decided not to file charges. (report)
  2. December 28: Lea Anne Grant Blanpied, 62, was found dead at her home on the 700 block of Meadows Drive in an apparent domestic homicide by asphyxiation and/or blunt force trauma to the head. Her son, Patrick Hugh Blanpied, who had called 911, was taken into custody at the scene and later charged with murder. He was indicted in April 2021. (report)

Leeds

  1. January 20: James Brody Sargent, 19, died at Grandview Medical Center from gunshot wounds suffered during a dispute over a marijuana sale at a residence on Kings Forest Drive. Anthony Widner was taken into custody and charged with murder. Though the crime took place in Jefferson County, he was held at the St Clair County Jail. (report)

Midfield

  1. April 1: The remains of Tiffany Osborne, 30, missing since February 17 from her home in Midfield, were found wrapped up under a discarded mattress on the 4200 block of Turin Drive, off Lakeshore Parkway in Bessemer. Her boyfriend, Cedric Earl Watts Jr, in custody on a probation violation, was charged in December with her murder. He pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter and was sentenced by Judge David Carpenter to 18 years in prison with credit for time already served. (report)
  2. May 29: Reginald Markell Evans, 35, was found shot to death in an alley behind a home on the 300 block of Bessemer Super Highway. The shooter, an acquaintance of Evans, surrendered to police, but has not been charged. (report)
  3. June 6: An unnamed male was fatally struck by a vehicle while walking toward a bus on the shoulder of the 600 block of Bessemer Super Highway. Though presumed accidental, the driver of the white Chevrolet Impala which struck him left the scene and is sought by police. (report)
  4. September 18: Anthony Dewayne "Pooh" Baldwin, 42, and the brother of mayor-elect Tonja Baldwin, was found dead in a crashed car on the 400 block of 12th Avenue Midfield. Investigators observed that he appeared to have been shot. No arrest. (report)
  5. December 2: Ti'Teauna Antunya Riggs, 19, was found shot to death in the passenger seat of a Dodge Charger that ran into a ditch off 12th Avenue Midfield after a suspected drug deal. Malik Rashad Fluker was arrested and charged with capital murder, murder and attempted murder. (report)
  6. December 2: Makiel Daveon Norwood, 20, was found shot to death in a wooded area near 8th Avenue Midfield which is believed to have been the scene of both shootings. Fluker was also charged with Norwood's death.

Mountain Brook

  1. April 16: Jack Henry Moody, 23, was struck and killed while riding his motorcycle on U.S. Highway 280 as it crosses Overton Road. He was struck by a light-colored utility van which left the scene. No arrest. (report)

Trussville

  1. April 1: Trent Thomas Parkerson, 18, was shot to death in a vehicle outside his house on the 7600 block of Happy Hollow Road. Steven Chase Lafoy was taken into custody and charged with capital murder. His bond was revoked when he was arrested in November for drug possession. He was indicted on the capital murder charge by a grand jury in March 2021. (report)

Vestavia Hills

  1. February 8: Douglas Harold Hart, 67, was shot to death in an exchange of gunfire with a Vestavia Hills Police officer on the 4400 block of Old Overton Road, near a Cahaba River boat launch. Police had responded to a call about a man wielding a gun, possibly threatening suicide. The Alabama State Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the incident. (report)

Warrior

  1. July 26: Alvin Ray Bowen Sr, 68, was killed in rear-end collision of his car on the 3000 block of Warrior-Jasper Road. Melissa Byars Allen was arrested in March 2021 and charged with manslaughter. (report)

Unincorporated Jefferson County

  1. February 4: Nick O'Rear, 33, a Kimberly Police Department officer was shot and killed while attempting to intercept a suspect vehicle on I-65 South. Warrior police began the chase near Exit 281 in Warrior. Preston Cheyenne Johnson and three others were captured later near Dora in Walker County. Johnson was charged with capital murder and attempted murder and booked into the Jefferson County Jail. He was indicted on those charges by a grand jury in December and pleaded guilty to felony murder and to the attempted murder of Lee Glenn in exchange for a 25-year sentence in Judge Alaric May's court. Johnson was also prosecuted in federal courts for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He pleaded guilty to that charge and was sentenced by Judge Abdul Kallon to 16 years in prison, following his release from state prison. (report)
  2. February 5: Kaiden Ford, 2, was found unresponsive at a home on the 1100 block of Florentine Circle in an unincorporated area surrounded by Birmingham's Spring Lake neighborhood. He was pronounced dead at Children's Hospital. Sylvester Corderyl Taylor, Ford's mother's boyfriend, was arrested and charged with capital murder. He was indicted in May 2021 for capital murder and aggravated child abuse. Taylor previously pleaded guilty to reckless manslaughter in the 2014 death of Angela McCall and had been sentenced to 15 years in prison, but was released in October 2019. (report)
  3. February 10: The body of Sean Caribe Avant Jr, 18, who was reported missing four days earlier, was found on the shore of Bayview Lake, below Mulga Loop Road just past the bridge on Bayview Drive. No arrest. (report)
  4. February 21: Avonte Damall Washington, 19, was shot to death on the 1200 block of Birchwood Street in an unincorporated area surrounded by Birmingham's Killough Springs neighborhood. Investigators determined that the deadly shooting was caused by reckless handling of a firearm. The shooter, Jauvon Travis Leonard, was then injured by gunshot as he fled the scene. He was arrested and charged with reckless manslaughter. (report)
  5. March 11: Sixto Martinez, 76, was killed in a head-on collision on Bagley Road near Trammell Road southwest of Corner. He was riding in a car that was struck by another vehicle which had crossed over the center divider. The driver of that car, Crystal Gail Minyard, was determined to have been driving under the influence of drugs and was charged with reckless manslaughter and assault. (report)
  6. April 20: Taylor Akin, 16, was killed when the car he was riding in rear ended a vehicle turning onto CCC Road from of 15th Street Road, west of Concord. Investigators determined that the car was moving at about 115 mph at the time of the collision. The driver, a 17-year-old male, was charged with manslaughter. (report)
  7. May 1: Troy Ellis, 11, died from a gunshot injury suffered while on a hunting trip near Cedar Mountain Road west of Ayres. His father suffered minor wounds from the same incident. Joshua Stewart Burks, a member of the hunting party, was charged with reckless manslaughter. That charge was upgraded to capital murder in December 2020. The case went to trial before Judge Clyde Jones in April 2020. The jury was unable to reach a consensus on the charges and prosecutors agreed to allow Burks to plead guilty to reckless manslaughter. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison, with a minimum of 6 months served and 3 years probation. (report)
  8. July 29: Amari Ruffin, 2 months, died at Children's Hospital from blunt force trauma to the head suffered while in the care of his father on the 100 block of Dalewood Manor Lane in Forestadale. Jamarius DeJuan Ruffin was arrested in September and charged with capital murder. (report)
  9. August 9: Ron Christopher Newell Jr, 23, was shot to death during an argument on the 300 block of Utica Place in Mulga. Cameron De'Shawn Moore was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  10. August 22: Pharrell Devion "PJ" Jackson, 15, was killed and two others wounded in a shooting near the intersection of Allison Bonnet Memorial Drive and Rutledge Drive near I-20/59 Exit 115, just east of Hueytown. Several suspects have been interviewed, but no arrests have been made. (report)
  11. August 24: Kyle Heath Nicholas, 31, was killed when the car he was riding in left the road and struck a tree on the 7900 block of Warrior River Road (Jefferson County Road 46) southwest of Rock Creek. The driver, Kristin Nicholas, is suspected of driving under the influence and was charged with reckless murder. (report)
  12. August 26: Brandon Monroe Thomas, 22, died at Walker Baptist Medical Center from a gunshot wound suffered while in his kitchen on the 6500 block of Snowville-Brent Road in northern Jefferson County, south of Dora. Several shots were fired from a vehicle into the home. Dalen Eliase Gaines was arrested and charged with capital murder. (report)
  13. September 14: The remains of Antonio "Toni" Bass, 29, were found in a field near Pratt Highway in Western Jefferson County. He had been reported missing a week earlier. No arrest. (report)
  14. September 29: Susil Rupasinghe, 68, owner of the Marathon gas station on Forestdale Boulevard died at UAB Hospital from injuries he suffered when he was struck by a car at the station following a dispute with a customer on October 14, 2019. Renadia Sheree Duncan was arrested and initally charged with attempted murder. The charge was upgraded to murder after Rupasinghe succumbed to his injuries, and that charge was affirmed by a grand jury's indictment in January 2021. (report)
  15. October 23: Adrian White, 44, and her fiancé, Quentin Dewayne Crenshaw, 42, were found dead from gunshot wounds in an apparent murder-suicide at a home they shared with her father on the 2500 block of Rice Creek Lane in the Rice Creek subdivision off Morgan Road. (report)
  16. November 9: Ja'mari Demetrius Harris, 18, was shot to death at the Park Brook Apartments off of Chalkville School Road east of Center Point. Antonio Nichols II was charged with murder. He was arrested later that month and indicted on a capital murder charge in May 2021. (report)
  17. November 19: Demarlo Frantrun George, 41 was shot to death on the 6300 block of North Clubview Circle in the Letson Farms community. His son, Jaylon Smith George, reported the shooting. He was taken into custody at the scene and later charged with murder. (report)
  18. December 5: Calvin Lanard Alexander, 58, was killed in a vehicle collision on Forestdale Boulevard near Grandview Drive in Forestdale. Anthony Sundale Moore was arrested and charged with reckless manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident. He was indicted on those charges in September 2021. (report)
  19. December 21: Janice Denise White, 61, was killed in a vehicle collision at the intersection of Micklewright Road and Gadsden Highway just outside of Trussville. Investigators determined that Daniel Wayne Swader, who had alprazolam, buprenorphine, diazepam, nordiazepam, and marijuana in his system, had crossed the median and struck White head-on. He was convicted of reckless manslaughter before Judge Shanta Craig Owens in December 2022. (report)

Shelby County

  1. April 14: Tyler Olds, 21, was shot to death at the Wolf Creek Apartments on the 800 block of Shelby Street in Montevallo. No arrest. (report)
  2. May 25: An unnamed male died at Shelby Baptist Medical Center from gunshot wounds suffered on the corner of Quarles Street and Selma Road in Montevallo. No arrest. (report)
  3. September 20: Rakhem "Rock" Shields, 27, was shot to death, and another female wounded, in a shooting at a party in a home on Old Highway 31 near 10th Avenue Southeast in Alabaster. Anfernee Jordan Brown, Vontarious Dameko Brown, Kajuan Robert Nelson Cassidy, and Christian Dayne Thrift, were arrested and charged with attempted murder and murder. Anfernee Brown pleaded guilty to felony murder and 1st degree assault in January 2023 and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Vontarious Brown pleaded guilty to manslaughter and 2nd degree assault in March 2023 and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. (report)
  4. October 16: Justin Bruno, 22, was killed during a robbery at the Harpersville Motel. A motel customer responded to the noise of the attempted robbery of the motel manager, and returned fire when Bruno shot at him. Bruno's accomplices Morgan Terra Thornton and Mandrel Jarmane Datcher were arrested on charges of felony murder and robbery. Two other accomplices, Amanda Joy Buras and another male suspect, face the same charges, but remain at large. (report)

St Clair County

  1. June 2: Stephen Williams, 50, a Moody Police Department sergeant, was shot and killed while responding to a call at the Super 8 on Moody Parkway. Tapero Carleone Johnson and Marquisha Annissa Tyson were taken into custody at the scene and later charged with murder. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the St Clair Sheriff’s Office investigated the death. Johnson was convicted at trial before Judge Phil Seay in October 2023 and sentenced to death. Tyson pleaded guilty to felony murder in 2024 and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. (report)
  2. October 14: An unnamed male was found shot to death following a reported disturbance at at 1302 Camp Winnataska Road in Pell City. No arrest. (report)

Talladega County

  1. January 21: Holli Christina Durham, 36, was found stabbed to death, along with two of her children, at her home at 150 Roy Lackey Lane in Munford. Her older son, Landon Hudson Durham, was arrested and charged with capital murder. He pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of mental defect before Circuit Judge William Hollingsworth. (report)

  4. September 8: Frslandez L. Cook, 52, was found dead from a shotgun wound at a home on the 1000 block of Odena Road in Sylacauga. No arrest. (report)
  5. November 22: David Earl Whetstone, 65, was found shot to death on the 700 block of Center Hill Road in Sylacauga. No arrest. (report)
  6. December 5: Corneil Dontavious James, 26, was shot to death in a vehicle at the Munford Mart at 39270 Alabama State Highway 21 in Munford. A black Jeep believed to have been involved was recovered at the Westgate Apartments in Talladega. Jarell Dishon King was arrested and charged with capital murder. (report)
  7. December 13: Linsdey Motes, 17, was killed in a single-car collision with a utility pole on Billingsley Road in Sylacauga. The driver, Christopher Ryan Hickman, was determined to have been speeding recklessly, and was charged with manslaughter. (report)

  1. January 1: Carla Fluker Mack, 49, was shot to death at her home on the 21000 block of Tammie Drive in Lake View. Her ex-boyfriend, Carl Evans Boyd, was seen leaving the house. He was arrested the next day and charged with murder. (report)
  2. February 18: Darrieon Dewayne Dees, 22, was shot to death near the intersection of 24th Street and Fosters Ferry Avenue in Tuscaloosa. Dees and Deramus Devalle Harris had assaulted another group of males who returned fire, killing Dees. Harris, believed to have instigated the assault, was arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder. (report)
  3. March 9: An unnamed male was shot to death on the campus of Stillman College. A person of interest was taken into custody. (report)
  4. April 26: Dominic Coleman, 20, was shot to death in a gunfight involving multiple cars in the vicinity of the Winston Mart at 2503 Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard. Nathaniel Patton was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  5. April 29: Xzavier Eatmon, 18, was shot to death at the Winston Mart at 2503 Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard. Lamarcus Keon McNeal was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  6. June 6: Laquavius Leon Pearson, 23, was fatally wounded by gunshot at Dave's Crimson Bar at 613 James I. Harrison Jr Parkway in Tuscaloosa. His brother, Joshua Marquise Pearson, was arrested and charged with reckless murder. (report)
  7. June 24: Henry McAlpine, 44, died at DCH Hospital from a gunshot wound suffered the previous evening on the 3000 block of Elm Street in Tuscaloosa. Omar Fowler was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  8. June 27: Jeffrey Charles, 33, was fatally struck by a stray bullet during a shootout at the corner of 24th Avenue East and 3rd Street in Tuscaloosa. Two 16-year-old suspects were arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder. (report)
  9. July 19: Leonna Tucker, 21, was found shot to death at the Grand At Rum Creek Apartments on Alabama State Highway 69 in Tuscaloosa. Eric Markett Hayward was charged with murder, but has not been brought into custody. (report)
  10. July 28: An unnamed 19-month-old girl was pronounced dead at DCH Regional Medical Center after being reported unresponsive at a home on the 15000 block of Savannah Drive in Coker. A medical examination concluded that her death was caused by severe abuse, assault or trauma. Her mother's boyfriend, John Thompson, was arrested and charged with capital murder. (report)
  11. July 29: Davena Hinton, 19 months, died at Children's Hospital from injuries sustained at her home on the 3700 block of 3rd Avenue East in Tuscaloosa. Felix Tabb was arrested and charged with capital murder. Davena's paternal grandfather filed a wrongful death suit against Tabb, Davena's mother, and officials of the Alabama Department of Human Resources. (report)
  12. August 30: Justin Lanier Douglas, 35, was pronounced dead at DCH Regional Medical Center from a gunshot wound suffered in a disput at the Sun Valley Apartments near Springhill Lake. Devonte Montel Hinton and Caleb Jashun Harris were arrested and initially charged with capital murder. The charges against Hinton were dismissed. Harris was convicted on the lesser charge of manslaughter in April 2024. (report)
  13. October 16: Schuyler Bradley, 19, died at DCH Regional Medical Center from gunshot wounds suffered during an argument on the 1700 block of University Boulevard on The Strip. Zachary Profozich was arrested and indicted in December on a charge of murder. He pleaded not guilty. A trial date has not been scheduled. Bradley's mother filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Profozich and against The Bear Trap, a bar she claims acted negligently by serving him after he was clearly intoxicated. (report)

Walker County

  1. March 7: The remains of Lisa Warren, 51, was found in Sims Creek off of Greene County Road 220 near I-20/59 Exit 53. Investigators determined that she died from injuries sustained at her home on 10 Street Northeast in Carbon Hill. Her husband, Robert Perry Warren, an appointed member of the Carbon Hill City Council, was arrested and charged with manslaughter. That charge was later upgraded to murder as evidence showed she had been struck repeatedly. He was indicted on that charge by a grand jury in October. (report)
  2. March 25: Stacey Hogan Campbell, 50, was found dead from blunt force trauma in her mobile home on the 4000 block of Alabama State Highway 269. Her boyfriend, Michael Gene Bolin, had reported a robbery, but was soon identified as a suspect. He pleaded guilty to felony murder in June 2022 and was sentenced to 20 years in prison. (report)
  3. March 27: Mark Simmons was found shot to death and another female wounded by gunshot on the 3800 block of Alabama State Highway 69 south of Oakman. Dustin Paul Morgan was identified as a suspect. He fled from police on a motorcycle and was captured in Morgan County after a long chase. He was charged with murder and attempted murder, along with other crimes. He was indicted for those crimes by a grand jury in October. (report)
  4. October 1: Fredrick Montel Brock, 19, was shot to death on the 1800 block of 11th Avenue in Jasper. Tavion Johnson was arrested and charged with murder. (report)
  5. November 14: Thomas Lance Colvin Price Jr, was shot to death during an altercation on the 200 block of Crest Avenue in Parrish. Shaquille Dandre Harris was arrested and charged with intentional murder. (report)
  6. December 11: Jerry James Jr, 36, died at UAB Hospital from a gunshot wound suffered while visiting a woman at a mobile home on Vallon Circle just east of Jasper. Jose Martinez was arrested and charged with capital murder. (report)
