Lortab is a hydrocodone/paracetamol drug originally marketed by Russ Pharmaceuticals to target a niche between over-the-counter pain medications and the strongest pain relievers. The combination was approved for medical use in the United States in 1982 and Russ Pharmaceuticals was incorporated by Russ Maddox in 1984.

Lortab originally targeted oncology and post-surgery patients and likely users, but found greater success in the dental field. Maddox sold his company in 1989 for $28 million.
