MAX Transit Route 39
MAX Transit Route 39 is a bus route serviced by the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority from Birmingham Central Station to Wildwood. The #39 designation is carried over from the original Birmingham & Edgewood Electric Railway streetcar route that ran through Homewood.
Major stops along the outbound route include the Central Station, 20th Street at 1st Avenue South, 18th Street at 28th Avenue South, the Bruno's at Wildwood (on some trips), the Internal Revenue Service Taxpayer Assistance Center on Tom Martin Drive, and the Sam's Club at Wildwood.
Weekday service is provided between 6:15 AM and 6:00 PM at 30 minute intervals during rush hour and 60 minute intervals at mid-morning and mid-afternoon. There is no Saturday service on Route 39.
In 1960 Birmingham Transit Company Route 39 also followed a Homewood-Edgewood route, branching off from Five Points South over Red Mountain along 18th Street, then down Central Avenue to Oxmoor Road, taking Broadway to Green Springs Highway, looping around at Lakeshore Drive along Rivera Road, Lucerne Boulevard, Rockaway Road, and Saulter Road back to Broadway.
