Mary-Ann Bjornsti

Mary-Ann Bjornsti is chair of the UAB Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, the Newman H. Waters Chair of Clinical Pharmacology, and associate director for translational research for the O'Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB Medical Center.

Bjornsti completed her Ph.D. in genetics at the University of Minnesota and a Fogarty Fellowship at the Biozentrum at the University of Basel in Basel Switzerland. She conducted post-doctoral training with James C. Wang at Harvard University before establishing her own laboratory as a professor at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1989. She joined the faculty of St Jude Children's Research Hospital in 1999. She came to UAB as a department chair in 2009.

In 2022 Bjornsti began a 1-year term as president of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology in Bethesda, Maryland. She also serves on the executive committee of the Alabama Drug Discovery Alliance.
