Matthew's in November 2008

Matthew's Bar & Grill was a barbecue restaurant located at 2208 Morris Avenue in downtown Birmingham's Loft District. The restaurant, which opened in August 2007, occupied the lower level of the Fanaei Building (formerly Slater Sales and Liberty Overalls Building), which was purchased by Matthew Fanaei and his son, Kavon Fanaei. The restaurant was closed in 2016 and the Fanaei Building was later redeveloped as part of Mercantile on Morris.

Kavon's sister, Kayla, a psychology student at UAB, worked at the restaurant when it first opened. She was found murdered near campus in October 2007.

Matthew's was used a venue during ArtWalk and various other festivals which took place in the Loft District and Downtown, including Southern disComfort.
