Mattie Sloss

Martha "Mattie" Lundie Sloss (born 1842 in Oxford, Mississippi - died August 10, 1922 in Birmingham) was the second wife of Colonel James Sloss and mother to three of his children.

Martha was the daughter of Thomas and Winifred Lundie of Oxford, Mississippi. The couple married in Oxford in 1872 and lived together in the new city of Birmingham. She bore James Lundie, Baxter, and Rosa to Colonel Sloss.

She served on a capital campaign committee to raise funds for the erection of a new building for First Methodist Church in 1879. The new building was not completed until 1891.

Mrs Sloss died in 1922 and is buried at Oak Hill Cemetery.
