The Birmingham Metropolitan Development Board (MDB) was a group founded in 1970 to promote business expansion and economic development projects in the Birmingham metropolitan area. Among the board's activities were commissioning national advertising campaigns to sell Birmingham to business leaders and consolidating commercial real estate listings for potential buyers.

The group's first director was Don Newton, who left to take the reins of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce in 1974. Its last was Ted vonCannon.

In 2005 the MDB created a Birmingham-Jefferson Film Office to promote the area as a location for filming.

In 2009 the MDB merged with the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce and Region 2020 to form the Birmingham Business Alliance, with plans to present a unified voice in support of development throughout the seven county area.
