Mountain Chapel Methodist Church is a Methodist church located at 2541 Rocky Ridge Road. The church was founded in 1958 when the Rocky Ridge community was experiencing a large increase in population during the late 1950's and early 1960's.
The church is the charter organization for Boy Scout Troop 69 (chartered in December 1966). Until December 10, 2022, it was part of the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church and known as Mountain Chapel United Methodist Church.
History
- On February 9, 1958, the first worship service was held in the Rocky Ridge Civic Center.
- In March of 1958, seven acres of land was purchased along Rocky Ridge Road for the new church site.
- On June 4, 1958, the church was officially organized and named Mountain Chapel Methodist Church of Rocky Ridge at the first Quarterly Conference.
- On June 29, 1958, Rev. Howard E. Collins was appointed as the first full-time minister.
- On August 23, 1959, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new chapel.
- On March 7, 1960, the first service was held in the new chapel.
- In 1963, a new educational building was completed.
- On February 8, 1970, the first service was held in the new sanctuary.
- In 2005, a major renovation of the sanctuary was completed.
- In 2022, the congregation voted to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church
