Myron Pope

Myron L. Pope (born September 14, 1971 in Sweet Water, Marengo County) is a former Alabama Crimson Tide football player and vice president of student life at the University of Alabama.

Pope was a walk-on linebacker for head coach Bill Curry and was part of head coach Gene Stallings' 1992 team that won a national championship. He earned his bachelor of arts in history in 1993, and a master of arts in higher education administration in 1994 and a doctor of education degree in 1997. His doctoral thesis was entitled, "An analysis of chief student affairs officers' and athletic directors' perceptions of student-athlete support services."

While in school, Pope worked as a club director for Boys and Girls Clubs of Tuscaloosa. After completing his doctorate, he was employed by the University of Alabama College of Education as its Director of Recruitment. In 2000 he joined the faculty of the University of Oklahoma in Norman as an assistant professor in the adult and higher education program. While there he founded his own consulting firm. In 2004 he was hired as assistant vice president of student affairs at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond. He was promoted to vice president of enrollment management a year later, and to vice president of student affairs in 2013. In 2019 he was hired away as chief of strategic engagement for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.

In 2020 Pope accepted an offer to become vice president of student life at his alma mater. In February 2022 Pope was arrested during a sting operation conducted by the West Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force and charged with misdemeanor solicitation. He subsequently resigned from his position at the University. The criminal charges against him were dismissed by District Judge James Gentry after he paid court fees and completed a "Johns Education and Awareness Program."

Pope and his wife Shanna have three children: Michael, Alison, and Isaiah.
