Olympia

Olympia (born February 8, 1996) was a female giraffe born to Morefu and Mara at the Birmingham Zoo. At birth, she was 5'-0" tall and 80 pounds.

The Zoo held a naming contest for the calf which generated over 800 suggestions. Eleven of the entries suggested "Olympia", in recognition of the 1996 Olympic Games scheduled for that summer.

The Zoo planned to sell Olympia to another zoo when she reached about 1 year of age. Older giraffes are more difficult to transport safely.
