The Presbytery of Gadsden was a regional body of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America (PCUSA). It was part of the denomination's Synod of Alabama. Congregations in the eastern part of the Birmingham area belonged to this presbytery. Those in the central, southern, and western sections belonged to the Presbytery of Birmingham.

In Birmingham's first three decades (1870s to 1890s), the PCUSA had few, if any, congregations in the Birmingham area. Presbyterian churches were either part of the Presbyterian Church in the United States (PCUS) (i.e., the "Southern Presbyterian Church") and its Presbytery of North Alabama or the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. In 1906, however, most Cumberland Presbyterian congregations reunited with the PCUSA. This gave this denomination, which was sometimes called the "Northern Presbyterian Church", a truly national body.

In 1983 the PCUS reunited with the national denomination (by that point called the United Presbyterian Church in the United States of America (UPCUSA)) to form the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), or PC(USA). After reunion, in 1988, PC(USA) presbytery boundaries were redrawn and Birmingham-area churches became part of the new Presbytery of Sheppards and Lapsley.

In 1922 the Presbytery of Gadsden included the following Birmingham-area churches:
