Quinlan Avenue was the former name of the section of 9th Avenue South between 20th Street South and 21st Street South. It was also sometimes used for the next block between 21st and 22nd Street South.

The avenue was named for Mobile's Bishop Quinlan, who had purchased the hilltop and surrounding property and planned to make it the site of Birmingham's first Catholic church.

When the Quinlan Castle apartments were built in 1927, they adopted the name of the street, which has since reverted to 9th Avenue South.
