Robin Metz
Robin Nance Metz (born c. 1960 in Nashville, Tennessee; died September 23, 2022) was a graphic designer, illustrator and artist.
Robin was the daughter of Bob and Faith Nance. She graduated from Homewood High School and studied art at the University of Montevallo between 1978 and 1980. She completed her bachelor of arts in graphic design, illustration and fine art at Auburn University in 1983.
Metz was employed as an illustrator for the Methodist Publishing House in Nashville and also took numerous freelance commissions for clients that included the University of Montevallo, Southern Progress, Landmark Calendars and the Marcel Schurman Group.
After 20 years of commercial art, she stepped back to focus on her own work, which has been shown at Lyda Rose Gallery and at several galleries in Fairhope, Baldwin County. Beginning in 2014 she and her husband, sculptor Ted Metz, collaborated on a series of painted ceramic pieces. Since 2020, more than 20 of Metz's pieces featuring images of the sun have been featured on the CBS News Sunday Morning television program.
Nance also worked for five years as a media specialist aide at Daphne Middle School in Baldwin County, and for nearly four years as a clerk at the Parnell Memorial Library in Montevallo. She was also an elder at Montevallo Presbyterian Church.
Metz was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2002 and with pancreatic cancer in 2020. During her treatment, she supported other cancer patients who couldn't afford their copays by donating the proceeds from the sale of paintings and postcard reproduction to Help Oncology Patients Excel, which she founded.
Metz died in September 2022.
