Ron Crumpton

Ronald Steven Crumpton (born April 6, 1968 in Alabaster) is executive director of the Alabama Patients' Rights Coalition and Alabama Safe Access Project.

Crumpton graduated from Pelham High School and began working as a technician at Vestavia Bowl and as a landscaper and sprinkler installer in the summers. Unable to continue laboring due to a disabling back injury, he returned to school and earned an associate's degree in political science and journalism at Jefferson State Junior College and a bachelor's in American government and political theory at UAB.

Crumpton began serving as a political advocate on behalf of patients' rights during college. He worked as a legislative liaison for Alabama Compassionate Care and headed the Alabama Medical Marijuana Coalition before taking his current positions.

Crumpton ran unsuccessfully in the 2014 general election against retired optometrist and former state representative Jim McLendon to succeed Jerry Fielding in Alabama Senate District 11. In the 2016 general election Crumpton ran as a Democrat against incumbent U.S. Senator Richard Shelby. He was defeated by a margin of 64% to 36%.
