Scott Praytor

Scott Praytor (born c. 1968) is the chief of the Warrior Police Department and a retired deputy chief of the Birmingham Police Department.

Praytor joined Birmingham's police department as a patrol officer in 1991 and was stationed to the West Precinct. He was promoted to sergeant and assigned to the department's homicide division, where he rose to lieutenant. He was later made captain of the Crimes Against Persons Bureau. He was given the role of executive assistant to the deputy chief over investigations in 2018, and then promoted to deputy chief in 2019.

After retiring, Praytor was one of 20 candidates who applied to succeed 25-year veteran Ray Horn as chief of the Warrior Police Department. He was the unanimous selection of the Mayor and City Council, and began serving on June 8, 2021.
