Scott Vowels

Scott A. Vowels (born 1966 in Indiana, Pennsylvania) is the first president and fourth executive director of the Birmingham-based South Regions Minority Business Council, one of 42 regional councils of the National Minority Supplier Development Council which serves Alabama, the Mississippi coast, and the Florida panhandle.

Vowels was born in Pennsylvania, but spent most of his childhood in Atlanta and Nashville. He earned his B.A. in economics and sociology and his M.A. in economics from Western Kentucky University, and also has an M.B.A. from Tennessee State University. For several years he pursued professional tennis as a full-time career.

He worked for several years in purchasing at the Saturn headquarters in Spring Hill, Tennessee. Before coming to Birmingham, he spent four years in purchasing at General Motors. He relocated to Birmingham from Detroit to take the position with the SRMBC, succeeding Ben Cooley. He is the brother of Robert Vowels, president of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
