"Self-Portrait in a Velvet Cap with Plume" (1638)

Self-Portrait in a Velvet Cap with Plume or Zelfportret met gepluimde fluwelen baret is a 1638 etching by Dutch artist Rembrandt van Rijn (1606–1669) which is part of the European collection at the Birmingham Museum of Art.

The 5 1/4" x 4" etching shows the 32-year-old artist posing in a plumed cap with his hand tucked inside the lapel of a richly-decorated cloak.

Birmingham's print was left to the Museum of Art in 1957 by the bequest of Mr & Mrs Oscar Wells. Other prints are in the collections of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the National Museum of Wales, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Morgan Library and Museum in New York, the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Gallery of Art in Washngton D.C., the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Rembrandt's copper plate still exists as part of the Humber Collection and has been used to create later editions of prints.
