Shannon Shorr

Shannon Shorr (born June 7, 1985 in Birmingham) is an internationally-ranked professional poker player.

Shorr graduated from Shades Valley High School and played for the Mounties' baseball team. He turned down a baseball scholarship to UAB and enrolled as a civil engineering major on academic scholarship at the University of Alabama.

Shorr was introduced to poker at college and lost a significant amount on online poker before qualifying for the the 2006 "Aussie Millions" tournament in Melbourne, Australia, where he finished fourth, taking home over $200,000.

With his parents' support, he withdrew from the University in 2006 to focus on professional poker. He has won seven professional tournaments and reached the final table 46 times. His live tournament winnings total more than $5.7 million and he has been ranked as highly as #5 on the Global Poker Index.

Shorr returned to Alabama in Fall 2008 and completed a degree in business administration in 2010.
