Spring Fling
Spring Fling (The Greater Alabama Spring Fling) was an annual event held during AEA Spring Break at the Alabama State Fairgrounds. The 2006 event, managed by Mid America Shows Delaware with attractions from North American Midway Entertainment, consolidated activites in the "Kiddieland" section of the park and attracted 30,400 visitors from March 17-26, including two days when the event was rained out.
The event was profitable for several years, but was continued as a service of the city. In 2005 it ran a $75,187 deficit, and lost $38,600 in 2004, a year that saw many new rides and a 106% increase in attendance over 2003. The even less-profitable "Fall Carnival," held at the same location with the same organizers, was discontinued after 2006.
Spring Fling hosted special daily promotions for church, school and fraternal groups, and hosted various city-sponsored events such as Senior Unityfest
