revised older estimates

I noticed that the census bureau revises its previous estimates when it releases new population estimates. Observe:

July 1 Population estimates since the 2000 census (2008)

year pop. %change since 2000
2000 | 242,055 | -0.32% | n/a 2001 | 239,786 | -0.94% | -0.94% 2002 | 237,125 | -1.11% | -2.04% 2003 | 235,876 | -0.53% | -2.55% 2004 | 233,399 | -1.05% | -3.58% 2005 | 231,877 | -0.65% | -4.20% 2006 | 230,914 | -0.42% | -4.60% 2007 | 229,800 | -0.48% | -5.06% 2008 | 228,196 | -0.70% | -5.74%

July 1 Population estimates since the 2000 census (2009)

year pop. %change since 2000
2000 | 242,051 | -0.32% | n/a 2001 | 239,786 | -0.94% | -0.94% 2002 | 237,153 | -1.10% | -2.02% 2003 | 235,959 | -0.50% | -2.52% 2004 | 233,540 | -1.03% | -3.52% 2005 | 232,137 | -0.60% | -4.10% 2006 | 231,368 | -0.33% | -4.41% 2007 | 230,618 | -0.32% | -4.72% 2008 | 230,228 | -0.17% | -4.88% 2009 | 230,130 | -0.04% | -4.92%

-So, while our official estimate for this year is higher than our official estimate was last year, we are still, apparently, declining in population, just from a higher original position. --Dystopos 11:19, 22 June 2010 (PDT)
