Non-native banks

For banks headquartered outside of Alabama, or even Birmingham, would it be ok just to have an external link to their website or the Wikipedia entry for them, instead of having their own page? My original plan was to state what their presence in Birmingham was (as I did for Cadence Bank), but I was wondering what you guys thought about it. I think the "List of" page should be as complete as possible, but I really don't have any desire to write an article on Wachovia that consists of anything more than "has x branches in Birmimgham and bought SouthTrust in 2004". And while that serves its purpose, and is more succinct about why they are in Birmingham, I just don't know if that is what we need more of here. Your thoughts? --Wheresdib 13:14, 15 November 2006 (PST)

  • This will be another one of those things where we'll have to see where we stand after looking at different cases. Consider the case of U. S. Steel, which had a pretty huge and multi-armed operation that had a huge effect on the district. In that case, it would be terrible to never have an article. Wachovia is a few notches down the scale, but, I think we do need something - maybe flesh out the deal they made with SouthTrust and some of the transitional issues as far as executives and structure. We've got their building and whatever regional operations might still be done here. And we've got whatever role they play in the community. For some of these others that truly just have a few branches in town, I think you're right. Redirect to the list and provide a link. • OK, that makes sense. If they have a major presence like Wachovia or Colonial, an article is needed, if not, then a Wikipedia link will work. The Wachovia article is my lowest priority (yes, I was displaced by them and am still bitter), so if someone else wants to write it be my guest. --Wheresdib 13:43, 15 November 2006 (PST)
