1960 route

I'm not understanding the 1960 route. I followed 18th Street to Mayfair Drive. Then there's a Windsor Boulevard south of there, but you have to go out to Highway 31 to get from one to the other. Durham Drive isn't on the map. I looked at the 1959 map at [1], and it doesn't look like the roads have changed much since then, except for Devonshire Drive no longer going into Howard/Samford from the back. Several of the roads on the 1959 map aren't labeled, so it is possible some names have changed. --Lkseitz 07:02, 17 October 2006 (PDT)

  • This was the only one that I couldn't follow in my Jeff Co Map Book. The 1960 Transit Map shows only the streets on the route, and doesn't use "St, Rd, Blvd" etc - so what it shows is the bus going down 18th Street, then taking a left on "Mayfair" and jogging down a bit to "Windsor", apparently crossing Independence Drive in the process. Durham is on the east side of 31. --Dystopos 07:18, 17 October 2006 (PDT)
Oh, there's Windsor Drive, above Durham. Okay, so the bus must have gone down Montgomery Highway to Old Montgomery Highway, then left on Windsor. Then it had to head south on Rumson Rd or Windsor Terrace to Yorkshire and on to Durham. Seems awfully complicated. --Lkseitz 13:00, 17 October 2006 (PDT)

I'll try to remember to scan that section of the map. It's generally pretty right on. I assumed the streets must have gotten reconfigured when the expressway and that office building with the neon cornice came along - but if your 1959 map is pretty much the current condition, I don't know where the discrepancy lies. --Dystopos 13:14, 17 October 2006 (PDT)
I don't believe any of Independence Dr. (Highway 31 in Homewood) south of 29th Ave. has been majorly rerouted since the early 1930s, when the cloverleaf at Lakeshore Dr. was built. Where's this "office building with the neon cornice"? --Lkseitz 19:41, 17 October 2006 (PDT)
I was disoriented. The area I'm thinking about is where "Old Montgomery Highway" diverges to the east of 31. --Dystopos 20:16, 17 October 2006 (PDT) (Anyway, Here's the map:)
