Name

It is my understanding that the name of the county is, officially "St. Clair" (not Saint Clair). It is named for Arthur St. Clair, a Revolutionary officer, and is normally found after Shelby County in alphabetized lists, including the numeration of automobile license plates. --Dystopos 11:36, 2 January 2008 (PST)

  • Looks like you're right. I had always heard stories about the county license plate designation being wrong (that it's not truly in alphabetical order, so 58 should be "Saint Clair" and 59 "Shelby"), but none the websites for St Clair County spell it out "Saint". Oh well, my bad. --Wheresdib 11:42, 2 January 2008 (PST)
